June 2022 Summary

Last Modified:

Books in June

Books I finished:

  • Cannonball by Kelsey Wroten
  • Anne-Marie the Beauty by Yasmine Reza
  • Just so Happens by Fumio Obata
  • It Is Wood, It Is Stone by Gabriella Burnham
  • The Blind Contessa's New Machine by Carey Wallace

finally finished It Is Wood, It Is Stone and honestly, I loved it. I then read The Blind Contessa's New Machine and it just hit the right spot for me. Burnham has prettier prose but I am such a sucker for Italian historical romance like the one Wallace gave me.

Books I gave up on:

  • None! :D

Books I'm still reading but haven't finished:

I'm notorious for starting multiple things at once and taking forever to finish them or I don't even finish them at all and they are in a perpetual state of "in progress." Yes, I know this is bad. No, I don't see myself changing that any time soon but I'm working on it.

  • Becoming RGB by Debbie Levy (once the more technical political stuff came up my eyes glazed over but I would like to pick it up again)
  • Esther's Inheritance by Sandor Marai
  • As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner

Music in May

I use ListenBrainz to keep track of all the songs I play. It can be connected to Spotify and other players like Strawberry Music Player. It's open source, too!

The bolded and italicized songs are songs that showed up in this list last month. Admittedly, I like to listen to the same things over and over again.

  1. Moshi Moshi by EMI MARIA
  2. Sigurado by Up Dharma Down
  3. Bungantulog by zild
  4. Famous by TAEMIN
  5. INVU by TAEYEON
  6. 抱きしめる (The Greatest Ver.) by BoA
  7. Peaches by Kai
  8. WANT by TAEMIN
  9. MOVE by TAEMIN
  10. Super Girl by Fennel

Not a lot new here except for the first three songs. EMI MARIA came out with this new single and I love it so much! I don't know if EMI MARIA can do wrong with me. Her voice is great and her songs are always so vaguely relatable. I love her and everything she does.

Up Dharma Down is a gem in the Filipino music scene. Sigurado is a song that just hits the funky vibes for me. Admittedly, zild's Bungantulog isn't a huge banger for me but I don't mind putting it on the background.

Top Albums of the Month

OKAY. DIR EN GREY came out with a banger of an album and I've been listening to it on repeat a whole ton. It's so good and I love DIR EN GREY.

The Mars Volta came out with a new song recently and I went back to their catalogue and listened to Frances the Mute a bunch of times. There are a couple of bangers on that album, The Widow, being one of them.

Screen Time

I use ActivityWatch, which is a free and open source app that automatically tracks the time spent on devices. It's cross platform so I use it on my desktop (Pop!_OS), my phone (Calyx OS), and my laptop (Manjaro).

Screen Time Usage Per Day

This chart below shows the hours per day I've spent across all my devices, not including work hours. While I wouldn't definitively say a higher number is worse, the real metric is whether or not I spent my time on the screen doing some productive or useful.

Hours Spent Per Day on Screens

Some observations:

  • I went back to the office recently and on the 15th I went out for some drinks with some co-workers and we were there for like four hours... I ended up not spending a lot of screen time once I got home.
  • The 24th was another day when I was in office but afterwards I went to eat out (by myself) and walked around the city. It was nice!
  • I don't know what the spike was on the 21st. Maybe it was just a particularly bad day.

Just for comparison's sake, here is the previous month (May) alongside June. June was a lot better than May and I'm really thankful for that. Honestly though, I don't feel any more productive despite this haha.

Not a whole lot of variety this month. Lots of web browsing!

  • YouTube, the bane of my existence. I've been indulging in a hobby of mine that involves a lot of podcast listening and even though the number is high, I was most likely multi-tasking during my YouTube time.
